Welcome to CleverOwl (“CleverOwl,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). CleverOwl helps learners generate personalized study guides by securely processing classroom materials they upload. We value privacy and aim to explain our practices in clear, accessible language.

This Privacy Policy describes what we collect, how we use and share information, and the choices you have. By using CleverOwl, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, you should not use our services.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. If you subscribe, our payment partners Polar.sh and Stripe process your billing details. We receive limited billing metadata (e.g., subscription status) and do not store full payment card numbers on our servers.

2.2 Uploaded Materials

When you upload classroom materials (notes, slides, handouts, PDFs, images), we process those files to generate study content. Files and derived outputs remain private to your account unless you intentionally share or export them.

2.3 Automatically Collected Technical & Usage Data

We collect limited technical information such as IP address, device/browser type, pages viewed, and feature usage to maintain performance, security, and quality. We use PostHogto analyze aggregated usage trends.

2.4 Communications

If you contact us or opt in to updates, we collect your email and message content so we can respond. Transactional and service emails are sent via Resend.

3. How We Use Information

• Provide and improve the service: generate study materials, personalize features, and maintain core functionality.
• Account & billing: manage subscriptions and payments via Polar.sh and Stripe.
• Analytics: understand product usage and reliability with PostHog.
• Communications: send transactional updates (Resend) and respond to inquiries.
• Security & compliance: detect abuse/fraud and comply with legal obligations.
• Product development: improve quality and relevance of generated content.

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for third-party advertising purposes.

We share information with service providers who help operate CleverOwl and are contractually obligated to protect it:

We use industry-standard protections including HTTPS/TLS in transit, access controls, and secure hosting on Vercel. No system is perfectly secure; you use the service at your own risk.

8. Children’s Privacy

CleverOwl is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us at privacy@cleverowl.app and we will delete it promptly.

9. Your Rights & Choices

• Access a copy of your personal information.
• Request correction or deletion of your data.
• Opt out of non-essential communications.
• Download your data where technically feasible.

California residents have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We are based in the United States. If you access the service from outside the U.S., your information may be processed in the U.S. We take reasonable steps to protect personal data during such transfers.
